Chapter XVII
Like an Elvis Song
âHow can you be so calm about this?â Hamilton said. He could still feel how much he was trembling on the inside. He was pacing back and forth in the grand room, feeling overheated from all of his passionate hatred for a certain two people named Julius Dalton and Kingston Fisher. âThose monsters mustâve manipulated their grandchildren into trying to rip our family apart again. Again! They were going to get their hands on Dominick one way or another, and you know what comes after that?â
Demiesius wasnât a dull man, he knew very well. âI would have gone after him.â
âExactly!â Hamilton shouted, âAnd do you know what kind of ego could instill if the Public ever got their hands on an elder?â
âThey would not have been able to hold me,â Demiesius said. âAnd Dominick is not a fragile being, Hamilton. Though he can appear reckless, he can very well defend himself.â
âAgainst how many slayers? How many silver chains would it take to make him a prisoner if he was captured?â When there was a break of silence, Hamilton went on and raised a single finger. âOne. One is all it would take in the right hands to make Dominick a captive and a victim. During my time chained like an animal in that darkness, there were moments when I would find my way out of the madness I was trapped in, and in those moments, arrogance spoke to me from a distance. I never got the chance to see the faces of the two that put me down there throughout those forty plus years, but slayers in training would surface to boast about how they would become the next Hamilton.â
âNo one could ever be you,â Demiesius believed. âYou are and will always be in a league of your own.â
âThank you,â Hamilton said, and then he shook his head in doubt. âBut there is always going to be more who have the ability to take my place in the Public. My own instructor from when I was a boy taught me everything he knew, and then I took every skill he introduced me to and passed it down to three people: Julius Dalton, Kingston Fisher and Samuel Colebrook. While Sam left the Public, there were still two leftover students that I taught everything I could, and they passed that down to the next generations. There are more of me out there, Demi. They have their own names, but they havenât shown their faces yet.â
âWhat do you want me to do?â the elder asked his husband. âI have the authority to tell Dominick to end what he has with that boy, but I know him better than anyone else. While he is upset now, he will resent me once he finds clarity from his rage.â
Hamilton wasnât sure for a moment either, but then he thought of his family, his son. âCall Jeremiah home, I donât want him anywhere near those boys. If what they spoke of is true,
